Piece of Newell History

Here is another very, very special Peter Newell lure which predates the Kadaitcha, Scorpion and Chin Minnow ... it was made in Peter's very early amateur lure making days and was known as the Newell Nilsmaster

Thought you might all like to see this one which is 140mm in total length and is an extremely rare original Newell

Very nice Rob. Another one out from the Newell archives. Keep them coming , although not too much at once, Brolly is getting on in age and cant handle too much exitment at once

Mate ... yep, must say I love to see these really old Newells - there are plenty of current Newell treasures around, but this really old stuff is unique an has a special place to play in the Peter Newell history

I'd hate to see Brolly too excited, so will probably hold a few of the others back till he logs on and see's this one first

Yep you're right, excited for sure and it's no secret that i love to see great lure makers early creations.It kind of reminds us that all these luremakers/designers have to start somewhere and who knows where it can take them.

The the best of my knowledge the Original Newell Chin Minnow was the next model produced by Peter after his early Nilsmaster attempts. These minnows were made before the Scorpion was designed and I believe date back over 30 years. The topline of the Chin minnow is very similar to the Newell Nilsmaster however the head of the lure is significantly deeper and the lure is much narrower. The Chin minnow with the bib cut-out is 150mm, the other 2 sanded blanks are 160mm and 140mm

Would be great to know if there are any others out there, particularly a finished one so I can see the bib shape

If I was to hazard a guess I would say that the bib would be the same as my Minnow, which I believe is from the same era and the early Scorpions which would be a reasonable expectation. I would be interested to hear others opinions or as you said, a finished lure.

Interestingly, I've got another early Newell minnow, sanded but not finished and in the 30yr old category - must compare it to yours
