Cassinni GT

Post by simon bruce » Sat Oct 03, 2009 3:09 pm

Did a trip to the Kimberley in August including a run out to Cassinni island.

The weather gods were kind and we stayed for a couple of nights camping on the beach.

There had been GTs seen along the Southern edge on the high tides so this was one of our missions.

Came up with this one, not huge but great fun on a surface lure seeing the follow and take and fighting in a couple of metres of crystal clear water.

Lure was a Smith Baby Runboh rigged with a barbless single hook on the rear hanger. Unfortunately the lure went missing in action later in the trip. Also managed to get a couple of hits from a sailfish on it but no hookup.

Not living there unfortunately. Lucky enough to get there for annual fix once a year for the last few years.

Surface lures are great, whatever the size.

I was stoked, had the lure for the job, known area for the fish and got one.

A not so happy outcome later in the trip where I got done three times in one session and they took the lures home too.

Had discounted the idea of the Stella 10000 and 100lb braid starting to think about it now.............
