Ron Gallo Lures

This is amongst my favourite lures, a very early Ron Gallo hand carved timber lure.

Ron Gallo's name doesn't seem to have popped up on this forum so I figured it was about time!

Here's a quote from Bransord Tackles website about Mr Gallo when he was inducted into Bransfords hall of fame in March 2007:
Ron Gallo is the North’s estuary expert. He was the owner of one of Cairns’ first tackle shops and his generosity as a retailer almost sent him broke. His lure-making skills are superb and he always has the time to help others, particularly youngsters. His achievements as a barra fisherman speak volumes and his knowledge of Lakefield is unrivalled.
And here is one of Mr Gallo's lures that I am proud to have in my collection

Not bad for a Queenslander. Before you throw it at a fish though I suggest getting a tetnus shot, those hooks might be nasty if they pin you lol lol lol

Do QLDanders know how to change trebles? lol lol lol
We don't need to change trebles wwnk

When the Barra pull the old ones off we know it's time to put new ones on, until then we just keep catching fish thumbsupsmilie

Had been wondering what this was, now I am thinking it is probably a Ron Gallo. thumbsupsmilie Picked it up in a mixed lot a while back.

Same paint job, think its a bit bigger, different bib and the way the eyes are painted looks pretty similar.

What do you reckon?

Gday Simon,

Your lure has all the hallmarks of one of Ron's lures - I'm fairly confident that's what it is - Nice pickup! thumbsupsmilie

thanks mate, have had it for a while and always wondered what it was. Your post was the first I had heard of Ron and also lucky that your lure was a matching paint colour.

Thanks Simon,
This time you've repaid me for the Lee identification.
This Gallo lure of yours is a dead ringer for one I have, except mines yellow/ black bars.
Thanks to your three angles I've made a match for eyes, paint and overall shape.
Picked mine up somewhere in FNQ, possibly early 90's, always wondered about maker.
Has some similarities to a Norm Edwards, but I knew it wasn't quite the same.
Thanks again. thumbsupsmilie
Regards, Tony (Wulagi, NT).

glad the pictures helped though Tony M really started the ball rolling by helping me definitely place mine as a ron gallo

like you i thought maybe N Edwards but I am probably a bit biased. having said that I wouldn't mind a few more of Ron Gallos lures they are well made and finished and fit in the barra and northern estuary style nicely.
