Charles Lane 'Wagtail Wobbler' Madrid NY

Post by MXB » Mon Aug 01, 2011 2:28 pm

Hi all . . .

Was recently offerred this lure and couldn't say No thumbsupsmilie

Charles Lane made lures from around 1920 in Madrid, New York, USA and this model is the early hand painted version with longer tail. These lures were made in two colours I believe. This one has the patented bib and these are rare.

A very interesting design , Roger , ......thanks a lot for posting bowsmilie !

Also a pretty different way of mounting the bib , .....don't find it very practical in a technical point of view , .......maybe it was to avoid patent arguments back then ?

cheers , Dieter howdy

@diemai . . .

Yes it is interesting the way the bib is manufactured and designed. You could be right on the patent design and avoiding any conflict with Heddon who had the slopenose and and then the 210 and Crab Wigglers.

The early ones like this also had the extended metal tail which was embossed (many found without these) and later went to a shorter mass produced metal tail.
The hand painted design is interesting but simple and theres something about the colours - the old colour tones are very individual.

Thanks for appreciating as this lure is 90 years old!! thumbsupsmilie
