Werner Kossman's W.K. Lures

Post by Marrakai » Mon Sep 28, 2009 11:49 pm

Here are a couple of Werner Kossman's lures from the 1970s, the Bristle Jig, and the WK Arrow (this one 3 ounces):

Image

The jig is marked "W.K. 100".

Werner also made the WK Bristle (a straight troller or rock-spinner) in several sizes, and several other sizes of Arrow.

The bristles were unconventional at the time and caused a bit of a stir as I recall, but they worked!

Werner Kossman was a real character, an inventive genius as well as a seriously keen fisho, holding many Australian and World records.
A true Aussie angling legend.
He died in January 2006 aged 84 years.

Heres a pic of Werner and his second wife.
He remarried at age 82, arriving on a Harley!
...complete with all his fishing gear!!

Not forgetting the WK Action. Ahh, chucking these things off the Beecroft Peninsula ledges with a 12' Butterworth and the "must have" Seascape 6:1 Major. Great memories.

@ Marrakai your W K Arrow is a lot like my Halco Javelin wonder who thought the design first . This came in a lure kit knocked out by Halco called Northern Waters

Now c'mon guys: was there ever a Halco lure that was not a copy of something else?? Image

I have a couple of Javelins too, but not that big (only 1 oz IIRC).
Might be time to dig out the Halco metals and toss them into the display cabinet!

Actually have a 2oz Halco Javelin.

Here's a couple of pics of the two together:

WK Arrow (or "Flash Arrow") 3oz on top, Halco Javelin 2oz below:

They are indeed very similar, and I for one am continually amazed at the degree of deliberate design duplication that seems to be a feature of the Australian lure industry from the very beginning.

No-one has copied the WK Bristle-Jig though!! Image
