Plastic Crazy Crawlers

Post by loomis » Wed Nov 25, 2009 4:38 pm

My collection of wooden Crazy Crawlers is coming along nicely, but after buying a few books about lure collecting and so on, I have been doing a bit of reading on the plastic Crazy Crawlers.

It got me thinking that I should try and complete the time frame of my collection and add the plastics to it. However, I am having trouble determining what models were made when, and how to tell the difference between the models.

Is there a way you can tell if a plastic Crazy Crawler was made in say 1962, 1978 or 2005? Surely this information is available somewhere, but with my sometimes sadly lacking Google skills...I have come up with nothing so far.

@ loomis

Check here , maybe you'd find a suiting link ?

http://heddonlurecollector.com/link.html

Otherwise just put in term "heddon crazy crawler" into the Google search engine !

Also try http://www.thehardbaitdatabase.com , on the entry page click "collectors links" on the left column , you could possibly also link further there to what you're looking for ?

good luck , diemai thumbsupsmilie

Leigh,
I take it you mean dating Wood ones as well as Plastic..so heres some info I have gleaned from several sources..
320 Tiny Crazy Crawler Plastic 1954-current 2-1/4"
2100 Crazy Crawler Wood 1939 - 1957 2 3/4" which became-
9120 Crazy Crawler "Spook" Plastic 1957- current 2 3/4"
2120 Small Crazy Crawler wood, then Plastic 1941- Current 2 1/2"
'Conetail' Small Crazy Crawler 'Conetail' Wood 1941- 1957 2 1/2"
2150 "Musky" Crazy Crawler Wood 1940 - 1957 3-1/2"

Wood Models
Red Dot on Chin, instead of Gold or Yellow 1939
Donaly Clips* 1939-41
Black Eyes 1939-41
Two Piece "Flap-Rig" Hardware  (2PC) ** 1939-46
Heddon Clips 1941-56
Red Eye Pupil Added 1942-56
Hardware Transition with 2PC Tail** 1946-49
One Piece Surface Hardware** 1950-56
*2120 Series never came with Donaly Clips
**2150 Series came in Toilet Seat Hardware

It gets harder with Plastic models though
The earliest Plastics had three colour eyes(gold outer, black middle,Red centre), The also may have gold writing on the belly and/or a gold blush dot for a mouth.
The earliest 320 can also sometimes have bell type hardware slightly recessed into the body.
later eye colours changed from 3 colour to 2 colour to follow much of the other ranges of lures.
Gold Eyes 1952-62
Cream Eyes 1963-80's
White Eyes 1980's onwards

hope this helps in some way

Cheers Brad
