Heddon King Cobra

I think I now have a new favourite Heddon lure- the Wood King Cobra!

Been a bit obsessed with the plastics of late, so had been ignoring the Heddon timbers.

Had seen a few 'ordinary' Wood Cobras, around 4 or 5 inches (ho-hum), but nothing prepared me for the size of this muther!! Image

These things were apparently designed to compete with the big saltwater Rapalas making inroads at the time.
Obviously they failed in the long run, but what a collectable!!

Indeed, very impressive and a nice colour scheme to boot.

Thinking I might have to track down a Hedon tiger as it seems to be consensus that it was the basis for the FNQ barra lure makers.

Just for comparison, here's a pic of the Wood King Cobra alongside a couple of 'standard' Wood Cobras;
I think they are the Model 9930 (3-hooks, 4 ¼ inch body) and the Model 9910 (2-hooks, 3 ¾ inch body):

Here's how they look hanging in the side of my display case: Nice!

For some reason these lures are not particularly attractive to American collectors and they can be acquired quite cheaply,
even though the Wood King Cobra would have to be bordering on 'rare' these days.

Not Aussie, but they are timber: I like 'em! Image

Bet the spaniards and GTs would love it......

Group photo really tells how large the King Cobra is, very nice.
