More Heddons...

Post by Marrakai » Sat Jul 18, 2009 12:39 am

Can anyone guess my favourite colour pattern for Heddon Lures?

...and I don't even know what its called!

Image

I've always loved this colour for freshwater. One of my very first store-bought lures was a sinking River Runt in this pattern, eventually lost to a cod in the Severn River when I lived at Stanthorpe in the early 1970s.

Here are their bellies:

If only the current crop of Heddon lures had as much character!

Thanks Laz, that sounds right.

Now I need to find a 'natural scale' timber punkinseed for less than the price of a car...

Marrakai,
The colour is Perch, Yellow Perch, Yellow Perch Scale (Code 9L or L) and more specifically yours with the white belly are early 9LWB, which is regarded as an uncatalogued colour as they also did a 9LYB with yellow belly which is more common and became Clour L in .
according to my guide
"There are numerous variations of the Perch color as this is one of the most common Heddon colors. They primarly have green and yellow scale patterns and red diagonal rib pattern. The scale patterns range from very fine to large scales in various shades of green to gold. Introduced in 1935 as a color for River Runt Spooks. Color code changed to "L" in 1946."

Brad:
Thanks for the detailed info, much appreciated.
I am thinking of buying a copy of "Heddon Plastic Lures" by Russell Lewis.
Have you seen it or own a copy? What are your recommendations...?
Thanks again

Russ Lewis is a good mate of mine - he sells as Findingo you know where.

Say that I sent you and he should have a copy of Heddon plastics (or any of his books they are all fantastic).

Cheers
