Newell Guppys

Post by brolly » Fri Oct 29, 2010 6:20 pm

The Guppy is another one of Peters early models that had many subtle changes over the years. While i'm not sure when the first Guppy was made i do have models dating back to mid eighties and a couple of them may be even a little older but i'm sure there would be a few earlier than these kicking around?Anyway here's my current bunch and while i'm sure i don't have every version covered i do have a variety of tow points and bibs and body shapes. @brolly

They are all good looking lures but I have to say that my favorites are the older style shapes in the top portion of the picture.

Especially in yellow and black.

Theres a big evolution in the shape though when you see a bunch of them together, very nice collection there Brolly and a thumbsupsmilie for posting the picture.

Awesome collection of Guppy's, Mike. clapclap clapclap

Like Simon, I'm a bit of a fan of the early lures with the soldered wire tows.

Here's a couple of Pete's Guppy's, from the late 80's. Shouldn't be too hard to find one or two of these to bulk up the collection.

Cheers

Travers

Brass insert?

Is that the early 1980s plate between vertical halves of the lure?

Fuse wire soldered around the tow pull?

Cheers,Jim
