Peter Newell Lures

Post by Lure-Nut » Sun Mar 14, 2010 8:54 am

Attached are a selection of Peter Newell lures under various stages of construction. They represent an important part of the Peter Newell legacy - within them are some pretty special lures, like the very first #1 3.5 inch Scorpion ever made and in more recent times the first #1 Prototype for Peter's Wildfire range which was only made 18 months ago.

I would also like to thank Jim Bond who provided me with an article from a 1983 Modern Fishing magazine titled 'Lures - How to roll your own' which is an article on Peter Newell and clarifies / categorises some off the very early shapes in the pictures below. Jim, I think you'll find an example of each of the 'Types' represented in the article. A lot of the somewhat 'obscure' names below came directly from the article, which is an outstanding reference document for collectors of 'old' Newell lures bowsmilie thumbsupsmilie

The NIlsmaster Prototype has a second bib slot, possibly after testing of the first position, which has been sanded away ?

Hope you enjoy them howdy

Top stuff Rob. Exellent that you could put names to them as well. It would be great to see others post up pics of some of these rarer lures in their finished state to compare. thumbsupsmilie

Rob,

Wonderful things to have.I just love the old stuff so much more than the newer "more commercialised" lures.

Thought you needed that article as soon as you started surfacing some original lures.

We do need someone geekier than me to put a copy up for reference for all the members.

Cheers,Jim

Yeh Jim .... the article put the shapes all into place, many thanks - without it I'd still be wondering. You'd be surprised at how exact the shapes were against the 'templates' on the last page thumbsupsmilie
