I could only hope

Post by fishaholiclures » Sat Jan 09, 2010 7:11 pm

Hi all,
Went over to my mate sto check the business, thought as I was leaving that some of you might like to see these, not that they are anything a hardened Newellophile hasn't seen before, but I can tell you its just wonderful to fondle these in the flesh. Maybe one day I can manage to aquire a few as well. droolsmilie

Simon,
This is second try for some reason, first one didn't gel.
Your reference to McSea Scorpion interested me, is it one of the lures Peter made for Vic McCristal in the 80's?
If so it'd have to be very rare, wouldn't it? Even to leave Vic's care.
I remember a story Vic relates about Peter making him some Scorpions, specifically for targeting deep water Goldies, (Fingermark Bream to you Qlder's).
Worked exceptionally well apparently, but then promptly retired by Vic as being too good to lose, as you would.
Do you know of this provenance? Or am I barking up the wrong tree?
Regards, Tony (Wulsgi,NT).

Tony,
Vic made some suggestions to Peter to change the shape of the lure and thereby change the action slightly, and Vic beleived the recurved flanks would act as vibe chambers to attract fish.
There were not a lot made, and this one came about because of the intertwined relationship between the owner of this lure and both Peter and Vic.

@ Dave & Brolly...sorry guys, these are just on loan to take some pics, they will be back residing on the piece of driftwood under the 120cm Barra mount with their bretheren tomorrow...

@ Simon, yeah I agree, there is something special about that variation that just says.....PERFECTION

For those who haven't seen it before, here's a link to the 1988 'Modern Fishing' Article in which McSea describes his suggested mods to the Scorpion.
