Absolutely unexpected catch of today .

Post by diemai » Tue Oct 11, 2011 7:30 am

G'day , people ,

Took a stroll around my fishing clubs pond around midday today , .......just getting started casting my lures I saw this little rascal right at my feet :

I good hope about the feeding activities of even the smallest pike around I walked on to cast my lures from the next spot :

Here a detail picture of the fish and my homemade jerkbait(sinking glider) :

Diemai, what a way to break a home made lure in, nice Zander.

thumbsupsmilie

You mention chasing pike, as a master of lure creations, have you thought about creating a duckling style, or a water rat surface lure?

I was surfing the net the other week and noticed a clip of a pike swallowing a duckling, simply awesome.

Thanks a lot , fellas bowsmilie , .......wish that little incidents like this would occur more often lol !

Robin , ....I have some surface lure blanks like rats and frogs down the workshop , balanced and already primed ......hoping to have them finally painted through winter .

It takes the right time and place to catch pike with topwater lures over here , .......warm water/weather is essential , topwater strikes most likely occur early in the morning or at about sundown during hot July and August , otherwise such lures coax strikes as from end of May thru mid October ........best are shallow portions of lakes and gravelpits or entirely shallow ponds with lots of vegetation in it .

Natural and quiet waters are better suited rather than waters with heavy boating on them .

Nothing more spectacular than a pike attacking a topwater lure ,...... often they'd jump out in full body length , ......but sadly sometimes missing the lure(or the unexperienced angler hauls back on sight and tosses the lure away too fast) .

Dave , that lure is a "Heiddy" jerkbait , a homemade design by two Dutch guys named HEIn and eDDY , hence it's name .
A very easy to build and easy to fish glider designed for pike ,........ you can find a template on this site :

http://www.lurebuilding.nl/indexeng.html

Click on "jerkbaits" on left green column , after click on left picture "gliders" , ....now it's the third lure from top , called "the roach" there , ....click on lure picture for describtions .

You may watch a "Heiddy" swim in here(lure displayed at 1:16 and swum at 2:12):

Thanks again , fellas bowsmilie , ...greetz , Dieter howdy

G'day , people ,

.........another unexpected catch today at the fishing club's pond thumbsupsmilie :

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NUdBwuOazM4

I've been after pike , but these were reluctant to strike ,........ as usual zippedsmilie !

Tried sinking glidebaits , 140mm crankbaits and even larger proven barra lures "Made In Australia" , ....they've just kept their jaws shut , ......so I've switched to my home-designed , sure-fire casting spoon "DinnerBell" , ...looks like rainbows are fond of these , too , ........caught pike , reddie and zander on them before thumbsupsmilie !

cheers , diemai howdy

Congratulations on the catch of nice trout Diemai, what unusual specimen is going to turn up next? clapclap ???

It's great your home made lures are producing the goods, just proves how effective they are. thumbsupsmilie

As for the pike, if you aren't using scent, perhaps you can give that a go, if not, try a huge rabbit fur fly in a Leech pattern? Usually something worked slowly in front of shut down fish may produce a strike.

Well, it works down south of the equator, so it's worth giving anything a go.

Worse comes to worse, you appear to be pretty handy with a slingshot lol lol
